Who said its using sound? The beeping is to indicate that an object has been found. 1 beep= radar and 2 beeps=sonar. The two beeps in sonar are 1 the sound being sent out and 2 it coming back

Sonar doesn't just find submarines, but also finds surface ships. How else can a submarine track a destroyer and fire at it? This is active SONAR to be more specific as it sends out an active sound wave at its target. The vessel emitting the active ping risks detection though. That is why there is also passive SONAR (hydrophones that pick up sounds from targets)

it's sonar not radar
radar is using electromagnetic wave and sonar sound wave

@Fabycfr91 Exact. Moreover the system radar works with the answer of the materials to the which released wave. The waves to sound reflect the object after to have sent a sonic impulse.
