6. Beyond Earth: With the advent of spaceflight, astronomers realized the potential of Earth-orbiting telescopes. A space telescope could no longer be hampered by the disturbing effects of the atmosphere. Moreover, above the absorbing atmosphere, it would be possible to study long-wavelength infrared radiation, ultraviolet waves and x-rays. Space telescopes have revolutionized almost every field of astronomy.

The "Eyes On The Skies" movie explores the many facets of the telescope - the historical development, the scientific importance, the technological breakthroughs, and also the people behind this ground-breaking invention, their triumphs and failures. It is presented by Dr. J, aka Dr. Joe Liske, a professional astronomer from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and host of the Hubblecast video podcast.

"Eyes On The Skies" is an official movie for the International Year of Astronomy 2009 and the International Astronomical Union, produced by ESA/Hubble (the same team as behind the widely distributed movie "Hubble - 15 Years of Discovery").

  • I have no idea why people needed to create a gawd complex when reality is more awesome, as testified by this :)

  • @atheistram prove it with facts

  • @natureman97 I have no creator other than my parent's.

  • Hubble was an astounding accomplishment.

  • @WerewolfOfTheWater Not really my logic but our creator's

  • @natureman97 I don't have to. It's your OWN LOGIC that says this.

  • @natureman97 Doesn't sound like very solid proof to me.

  • @WerewolfOfTheWater What makes you say that somthing greater has somthing even greater behind it? Give me a few examples.

  • @WerewolfOfTheWater I would have to kill you first...

  • @natureman97 That doesn't make any sense, if something "awesome" had to have been made by something greater than surely that something greater must have even something greater behind it. In other words who created god?

  • @natureman97 Really then do it.
