Hey there taifobchick480224,
Hmm? I don't use oils much, so it's hard to say. Do you have photos online anywhere that I might look at it? If the text is totally covered by acrylic, maybe there is some reaction happening betw the acrylic and oils? Maybe if the acrylic is not totally dry, the mix with oils is doing something? Just don't know...

Thanks for asnwering me, but I have one more question :)
My friend did the transfer on a canvas and painted over with Oil paints.
But when I did it, I tried going over it with the oil paint but It would just splotch up because of the paper all scratched up.
do you know why?

Hey nanogirl,
You can experiment with ink jet certainly. I find the carbon from laser or xerox copy bonds best with the acrylic. The ink jet ink smears and doesn't bond well. I have used the Sheer Heaven paper from Cre-8-it! in the past to do inkjet color transfers and it works pretty well. Hope that helps!

I am totally new to mixed media art, but trying to learn thru the videos. I was wondering, are there any copyright concerns in using magazines or pages from books for transfers, or is this use considered an acceptable fair use as a derivitive work? I don't run to get into any copyright intanglements.

@notfauxnooz There are always concerns with copyright!! If you have any question about it, consult a lawyer before moving forward. "Fair Use" is one big gray area. Your best bet would be to go with public domain stuff. Hunt around, understand what public domain is, better safe than sorry!

hi i really do hope you're able to respond to this comment in time because i have a birthday gift to work on!!
but can we apply modge podge instead of the semi gloss?
i want for my gift to last as long as possible!

@cheeseandcrackersYUM - hmmm, sorry but I'm not a modge podge user, so I have no idea how it would work. I'd suggest testing it on something other than the gift you are making. Something you could do the transfer, let it dry completely, and then mess with it to see how it with-stands being messed with, you know? Acrylic stuff I've done has been rock solid, not peeled, bled, faded. But I do trans off vintage paper which is not acid free, so long term, I don't know...helpful?

@kotapress yes! very helpful. i'm not exactly sure when you say vintage paper though, can i use magazine articles? are they acid free?
also i'm on a budget and can't afford the golden semi gloss at my local art store, but jwr artist's acrylics gloss medium and varnish is a tad cheaper, can i use that as an alternative to golden?

@cheeseandcrackersYUM - Vintage paper, like old books, pages yellowed and such. Guessing many magazines would not be acid free, but sometimes in the masthead pages there will be some note about the paper, ink process they use. Whether acid free or not, anything printed with carbon -- like photocopy or laser printer -- will transfer for sure. You can always take images you find in other media, photocopy to get carbon versions. I'm sure any acrylic would work. I've used goldens and liquitex.
