2 days after my 26th birthday, I attempted to deadlift a little more than 3x my own bodyweight for 26 reps. Bar weight is 519 lbs; my evening weight is 172 lbs (166-169 first thing in the morning). Strapped in, touch-n-go, and sumo style, but I'm still pleased with the outcome. The reps are non-continuous; I had to take short breaks after the 15th and 22nd reps. My long-time lifting partner and close friend Adam was their for support (read: to keep me from wussing out).

I apologize for the partial nudity. It was about 95 degrees in the garage.

  • Dammit Jeff, now I am gonna have to have Adam get us back into heavier DL afterwatching this. Was that him countingin the background?

  • @JTLomo Yeah man. That was Adam sitting in the door step and counting. You guys should get after the pulls again. You don't have to wear yourself out with a ton of pulls close to your max, either. Just build up the frequency and improve your groove with some lighter weights, and make progressive increases when you can. Adam will tell you - he made some decent improvements the summer we were pulling low reps 3-4x per week at ~60-70% (something like a 50 lb gain on his 1RM inside 3 months)

  • Amazing stuff! What's your current 1RM? I've pulled 270kg raw at 79kg bw, but I guess I only could've done five or six with 235.

  • @KimBeckGundersen My PR 1RM is 300 kg raw (done all the way back in January, 2008); I did that at 76.5 kg bodyweight. I work very hard to improve my low-rep strength, but by nature, I am much better at feats of strength endurance than those requiring explosive or top end strength. I'm no closer to my goal of 318 kg / 700 lbs than I was 3 years ago, but if I switched training goals, I think I could probably hit 275 kg x 10-15 with my current 1RM.

  • thats the most impressive Deadlift vid ive ever seen..that was not only a 3X bw dead the form is just impeccible and for so many flawless reps. my hat is off to you you are an inspiration Jeff..

    Respect ,

    James

  • @frillylizzard Thank you! I appreciate the compliment. If you have not seen them, I'm fairly partial to Konstantin Konstantinovs training videos, myself.

  • Damn! I bet you were still sore on your 27th birthday.

  • well thats one way to get a hernia

  • Well done. Good strength on low bw. I was tempted to say that this was 15+7+4, and the title should reflet it, but then I realized that you just did a total of 26 reps with my 1RM DL, so I rather keep my mouth shut and congratulate you! :) Also, a 1RM of 300kg at such a low bw is very good. I asume you're natural too, so more respect to you!

  • thats is seroius raw strength. Good endurance also!! well done man

  • Christ, you have one gigantic rib cage.
