On February 25, 1986, after a fairy-tale uprising forced the Marcoses to flee the country into exile in Hawaii - now known all across the world as the People Power Revolution, Cory Aquino became the Eleventh President of Republic of the Philippines, the first woman to hold such office in the country and in Asia.

On August 1, 2009, Cory Aquino passed away due to colon cancer, 17 years after stepping down from office and handing over the presidency to her duly-elected successor, Fidel V. Ramos, leaving behind her tall legacy of restoring freedom, democracy and the rule of law in the Philippines.
