Dr Chris Berry from the University of Cardiff describes how 390 million-year-old fossilised trees from Greenland and Venezuela show the evolution of flattened leaves. These tree-like plants (Archaeopteris) are now extinct, but by 380 million years ago, they had leaves with the shape as the leaves we see on trees today.
