Did you know...
The proper English plural for octopus is actually octopuses? It's a common misconception that it's more proper to say 'octopi,' when in fact that's a Latin suffix attached to the end of a Greek word--that is, octopus. Since the word octopus is Greek, the correct plural ending should be the Greek 'octopodes.' The problem with both octopi and octopodes is that when we incorporate a new word into the English language, we standardize it in English.
Which means octopuses is correct.
