i wondered if there is any new evidence on this drug and what we should do to try and get him back to what he was. [if possible] Im not one of these people that instantly attack the drug company but it does look like he is one of the unlucky labs that have been affected. Thanks, mark from Yorkshire in the UK

As long as the patient is healthy (especially liver and kidney function), I will start them on a two week trial, then re-measure the results to make sure there is no drug intolerance. I repeat this test every six months to assure drug safety.

Hello Mark. Though im not a vet, i believe my sisters 13 year old black lab recently nearly died from Rimadyl side effects after 10 days on the drug.
He was showing all the symptoms and now has liver damage. Its a shame as he was so fit for his age.
There is some confusion as the puppy he lives with has had diarrhea. I also havnt seen the blood results as my sister has dealt with the vet. All i know is a fit dog nearly died and his liver is now damaged and he is unsteady on his feet ........

I am very sorry to hear about your experience.
Rimadyl, like other durgs in its class (including over the counter products), is not free from adverse reactions. The key is careful patient evaluation and selection. I generally recommend a thorough physical examination and blood work prior to the initiation of any analgesic (pain killing) therapy.
