Stephen Fry in conversation with Clive James. This is probably one of the most eloquent examples of the difference in philosophy of people from the two cultures.

  • @Tahrajj We believe in the Freedom of Speech more than Anyone else, combined with the rights of people to be defended from verbal slander and persecution.

I can say whatever the fuck I want to the largest crowd in Britain, there's no written threat to stop me... unless I'm inciting violence of encouraging hatred toward a group.

I could show you 200 documented videos that show how America is 100 times more UN-FREE than Britain is. and you could Never show the same about Britain.

  • What scares me about Americans generally is the gulf between how they see themselves (free, liberal, optimistic, macho, powerful) and how they actually come across (puritanical, conservative, insular, squeamish, over wrought, hokey). They really could do with an age of enlightenment or reason!

  • @whozafeard I am an American. I love my country. I agree with whozafeard. Every American should travel overseas. It is very humbling to realize most of the western world does not want to swap passports. They aren't anti-american, they just react against a nation that constantly says "WE ARE THE GREATEST COUNTRY EVER. " etc..

We should be humble, see how others solve problems. Let's start with public transit? Compare or diesel trains to European high speed rail We are in the stone ages.

  • Despite being a very intelligent man Stephen still confuses England with Britain, and vice versa. Embarrassing. Scottish independence 2014.

  • @iRiggers if someone pulls a knife on a cop in the USA it doesn't matter if they are a homeless Native American or a banker, they are going to get shot. Everyone knows that in the USA so who ever he was...he was asking for it. As far as turning the cruiser so the dash-cam can't see all that's going on....yeah, it can happen....but judging from all the YouTube cop videos enough of them haven't caught on to it

  • What he said about Americans feel they are more "Oragonians" (or Texans etc) more than they think they are "Americans" is completely wrong. I have never heard anything so absurd.

  • @inkey2 Of course, dash cams are ancient history already.

A Very Small percentage of police activity happens in front of police cars.

Not only that, police will deliberately park their vehicle away from the situation so there's no visual evidence, Take a look at that famous video of the Homeless native American that was shot by Seattle police for "apparently" threatening the cop with his tiny carving knife. There wasn't One street camera that caught the Actual scene

    What do you think?

  • Clive James needs to cease his asides and let Fry speak. Fry is being universal and speaking on what he believes are philosophical truths, where James is being condescending and petty.

  • @whozafeard What scares me about Americans is that I am one and for some reason you've already divined how I comport myself on a daily basis.
