Interview with LBPD Officers Roy Wade and Abe Yap

This video was presented during the May 15, 2007 Long Beach Police Dept. Awards Ceremony, featuring the words of Purple Heart recipients Long Beach Police Officers Abram Yap and Roy Wade, Jr.

Three days before Christmas 2006, Officers Yap and Wade conducted what they thought would be a routine traffic stop in the heart of downtown Long Beach (Long Beach Blvd. at 6th St.). Instead, the driver pulled out a gun and opened fire on them.

With wounds so serious that fellow officers feared the two men wouldn't survive waiting for paramedics, fellow officers rushed them in police vehicles to LB Memorial Hospital where teams of doctors and nurses fought to save their lives.

The fact that Officers Yap and Wade Jr. are alive today to speak on the video is considered by many to be nothing less than miraculous.

Do you really think that the two officers shot here would believe what you are saying? These guys took bullets in the FACE while doing their job so that you could go home that night and watch TV or eat dinner. Their lives will never be the same.
