John Pilger's documentary explores the historic and current relationship of Washington with countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. Pilger claims that the film "...tells a universal story... analyzing and revealing, through vivid testimony, the story of great power behind its venerable myths. It allows us to understand the true nature of the so-called "war on terror". According to Pilger, the films message is that the greed and power of empire is not invincible and that people power is always the "seed beneath the snow".

Pilger interviews several ex-CIA agents who purportedly took part in secret campaigns against democratic countries and who he claims are profiting from the war in Iraq. He investigates the School of the Americas in the U.S. state of Georgia, where General Pinochets torture squads were reportedly trained along with tyrants and death-squad leaders in Haiti, El Salvador, Brazil and Argentina.

  • @dariusmartin78 the irony is, American soldiers are going to court, not because they tortured people, but they desecrated the dead. .. talk about get rid of the old, light then load.

  • "Why torture them, when you can shoot them?" :|

  • @TheLoyalOfficer some sectors of the army were influenced by the school of americas in georgia, sectors of extreme right and in 29 of june there was a little coup known as the "tanquetazo" were a group of tanks surround the palace this little coup was stifled by pinochet and other generals. but before that, the army was divided

  • @BenjaminBruna And what about the Chilean Army during Allende's regime?

  • @KEVINKRUD dude, here in chile we have a problem with 11 of september

    - the 11 of september of 1897 a coup destroy our president, balmaceda he also comitted suicide

    - the 11 of september of 1925 there was an another coup in santiago and many others

  • @TheLoyalOfficer dude im from santiago de chile, i have parents that lived in the government of Allende and i study my own history a lot, first of all, during the allende gobermnment the quality of life of the poor people rise as never before, thanks to allende we are the owner of the copper the most important natural resource. but them came pinochet, now we are the most unequal country in latin america wea have the most expensive health and education, and now we are fightingt agaisnt that

  • @statusisquo Allende was warned by his own army - if he goes commie, there will be a coup. He went ahead anyway, without much popular support at all. As warned, the army rose up and crushed him. The only reason why he is remembered today is because he was made a martyr. The Chilean Army was not going to tolerate another Castro in their country, CIA or no CIA.
