That is a wrong setup, that is not the way Smack designed it, maybe you should take another look on his design. You should use 316 L stainless steel connections, never use copper wire, unless you want a big explosion. A dry cell configuration is much better anyway.

Your wires are way too small to take the amperage your trying to put throught them. One of those twisted wires I saw can only handle about 1 amp.
