The album kicks off with this tune, which features a super nerdy drum set intro with some droning guitar work. There's a motif, in that the first bar of each phrase is similar with only slight alterations. Everything else is absolutely nuts; there are polyrhythms, polymeters, fusion-esque licks, odd note groupings, interdependence stuff, metric modulation/superimposition and everything that would pique the interest of a prog-head or music major. It doesn't start with all guns blazing, I try to build it -- somewhat -- but it's hard to build a 32-bar prog/metal solo dynamically, haha.

Another brief part of noteworthiness occurs at 2:20-2:25. Every time a new string of kicks start, I strike either the crash or china cymbal. The snare falls with the china and many of the gaps are filled with snares/ghosts/tom-toms. The result sounds very angular.

As mentioned in the video description for the studio movie, this tune features Zack Orway's blazin' shred solo from 2:06 - 2:25. I apologize (again, heh) for the shoddy frame rate during this part, although it kinda lends a mechanical visual feel to the already mechanical-sounding music. Sometimes my camera poops out if I record for too long; it's a bummer. It happened only once more during the end of another tune, so most of the footage isn't lackluster, thankfully.

  • @xTxWAGx You must realize that the album is written as a cohesive work; there are riffs that are repeated and a lyrical motif. Granted, I'm posting videos one-by-one but that's really besides that point; you need to hear the tune within the context of the entire album.

  • Somehow, Drunk Guy Getting Power Washed and Goat Yelling Like A Man are strangely related to Travis Orbin's talent. I'm going to investigate!

  • To play the crazy polyrhythms and stuff that you're generally known for (and demonstrate in this song), did you do any learning of musical theory and things like that, or have you just picked up these insane drumming skills through years of playing and intense musical experimentation?

  • You make me poop my pants, sir.

  • Sort of sounds like Cloudkicker from a sound-perspective a good portion of the song. Cool.

  • SIIICCKKKKK Just bought the album! WORTH EVERY PENNY! AWESOME!!!!

  • God I love it when it kicks in right after 1:40!! SOOO GOOD!! \m/

  • ughhh i was just thinkin to myself "why the fuck is there a dislike!" and I accidentally clicked dislike....lifefail

  • I hope to meet and study with you one day. Im starting a prog death metal band in boston. uhhhh fuck yeah, peace

  • I really enjoy the minute long drum introduction, it's definitely not the same old typical, cliche drum openers that most bands tend to use. Well done as usual, Travis.

  • My drum teacher introduced me to this band.... and right after my lessons, I ordered their album!

  • because of this song, and solely this song i want to grow long hair (similar to yours) and just windmill.....
