This is part 15 of the 1985 Daytona 500. This race, the 27th running of the Daytona 500, marked a major changing of the guard in the sport's biggest race.
For some reason, the lap 177 restart following the third caution and the next three laps are skipped. We rejoin the action on lap 180, and we discoever just how much faster Bill Elliott's car is than everyone else's among those left in the race, as Elliott is once again turning laps approaching 200 MPH, up to 198.6 MPH, as he pulls away from Neil Bonnett and the rest of the field at the rate of half a second to a second per lap. Meanwhile, Buddy Baker, who's one lap down and in the battle for fourth place with Darrell Waltrip, Ricky Rudd, and Greg Sacks, passes Bonnett to put Bonnett in a position to lose second place to Lake Speed.
All credits go to SPEED, NASCAR, and CBS Sports, who originally broadcast this race on February 17, 1985.
