I was speechless. Well I didnt see that explanation coming.
Joe: Please say something.
McKell: Im sorry. I shouldnt have jumped to conclusions. I just thought that maybe you changed your mind and realized that you didnt love me anymore.
Joe: I could never change my mind. You are my world.
He came over to me and wrapped his arms around me and put his forehead on mine.
McKell: you are amazing you know that?
Joe: No, you are amazing.
I stood on my tiptoes and gave him a quick soft kiss and broke away.
Joe: I love you.
McKell: I love you too.
Joe: do you want to go downstairs and get food now?
McKell: Of course, I was just going to break into your stash of chips anyways.
Joe: you know where they are?
McKell: you arent that great at hiding things.
Joe: Damnit. Oh well, come on lets go get food. Im hungry.
I grabbed his hand and intertwined my fingers with his. We made our way downstairs and everyone was starting to dish up their food. We went to the table and got some plates of food. I felt someone staring at me so I looked up to see Chad standing a little bit away. I turned away. I didnt want to talk to him. After getting our plates we went upstairs and sat on his bed eating our food.
Joe: are you doing anything tomorrow?
McKell: nope.
Joe: good, Im taking you out.
McKell: You dont have to.
Joe: but I want to.
McKell: Ok, Where are you taking me?
Joe: Uh, Im not quite sure yet.
McKell: You know you just dont want to tell me.
Joe: because it ruins the fun of the surprise.
I pouted and he laughed and kissed it away. Then we heard someone clear their throat. I looked up to see Jocelyn crying.
McKell: oh my gosh, Jocelyn whats wrong?
Jocelyn: can I talk to you alone?
I nodded and stood up.
Mckell: Ill be back.
Joe: Ok.
Jocelyn and I walked down the stairs and out the back door to the backyard.
McKell: What happened Jocelyn?
Jocelyn: Kevin and I got in a fight. He says that I shouldnt be with Mark, and I wish he would just drop it. He makes up these lame excuses as to why I shouldnt be with him.
McKell: like what.
Jocelyn: well, that hes too old, that hes a jerk, and he even said he was abusive.
Mckell: What? Hes never met him.
Jocelyn: he saw this bruise on my stomach and-
McKell: How did he see it?
Jocelyn: My shirt lifted up a bit.
McKell: Oh. So how did you get it if you dont mind me asking?
Jocelyn: I ran into a table at school. But Kevin has the nerve to accuse my boyfriend of beating me.
McKell: Im sorry-
The back door slammed and Kevin came out looking frustrated.
Kevin: McKell, can I talk to you?
Jocelyn: shes talking to me.
Kevin looked shocked, he hadnt seen her.
Kevin: oh, uh sorry, Ill just, Ill go.
He turned around and went back inside.
McKell: Hey, Im going to go talk to Kevin right now.
Jocelyn: Why?
McKell: because I want to hear why hes making these accusations.
Jocelyn: Fine.
She stood up and went into the house I followed her to go get Kevin. As I walked in I ran into someone, but it wasnt Kevin. Nope, it was Chad.
McKell: Please move Chad. I need to talk to Kevin.
Chad: Can we talk first?
McKell: No, I dont have time; I need to talk to Kevin.
Kevin looked at me and realized I was in need of help.
Kevin: Oh there you are, come on.
He pushed past Chad and grabbed my arm taking me outside.
McKell: thanks.
Kevin: No problem. Did you really need to talk to me?
McKell: Yeah, Jocelyn is really upset.
He looked away as I said Jocelyns name.
McKell: Why do you think her boyfriend is beating her?
Kevin: Did she say how she got that bruise?
McKell: She said she got it from a table at school.
Kevin: She told me that she got it from her kitchen counter last week. I saw it when she came home from visiting Mark two weeks ago. Plus there is a bruise on her shoulder and one by her wrist, and it looks somewhat like a hand.
McKell: What?
Kevin: Shes lying to us. Shes covering it up. Why do you think weve never been allowed to meet Mark?
Was her boyfriend really beating her?
