http://www.50plusyoga.com Dee Greenberg of 50 Plus Yoga demonstrates a novel, fun hamstring stretch that she learned from her teacher Shiva Rea. Requires the use of an extra long (10 ft.) yoga strap which you can order here: http://www.50plusyoga.com -
We create a long loop or sling with the yoga strap so it connects to the bottom of one foot and behind your head. You are not only getting a great stretch to the hamstring, but in addition this is a good stretch for the cervical vertebrae in the back of the neck and also for the thoracic spine (upper back.) This posture is done lying on the floor and due to the use of the yoga tie, the hands and arms remain free and relaxed.
This is a very relaxing and therapeutic stretch and can be used as part of a gentle, restorative practice or to add balance to a vigorous, athletic practice.
Perfect for athletes, especially runners and good for seniors as well. This posture can help to heal and relieve chronic low back pain. If you are injured, please check with your doctor before attempting this posture.
