My 12 year old cat was a rescue and has been deaf since a kitten. My male Ball Python was a rescue in very critical condition when I got him and my cat has always been exposed to both of my Ball Pythons. She has especially bonded with Tipr, my rescue and they hang out and curl up and sleep together on my bed in the sun.
My cat is declawed and they really took an interest in each other without me intervening and through time they have grown closer to the point my cat checks them in their enclosures and tries to give them a bath, which they don't really care for. LOL
It's amazing to wonder how many animals in the wild that are predators could actually co-exist in peace in a less aggressive environment, and bond with human intervention. It happens a lot actually and is becoming public knowledge like big tigers growing up with bears and playing together as pals. This is another reason that I feel Zoos are a vital part of research and education so we can watch animal behavior under a different environment.

  • Why did you declaw your cat?

  • @HaloGears360innit Why would you ASSUME I declawed the cat because I have it? The cat was a rescue. Was slammed in a car door as a kitten and has been deaf since and she was also missing the last third of her tail. ALSO, she was declawed when I rescued her from the people that had abused her. Wouldn't it have made more since to ask me if I was the one that had her declawed rather than automatically assume?

  • @1softkiss Yep, would have been more reasonable. So did you declaw the cat? From your awnser back I assume you didn't. Would be weird if it weren't so. Anyway nice to see this akward combination living together.

  • @HaloGears360innit No, I didn't declaw the cat she was like that when I rescued her.I'm VERY against taking away that part of life that animals have been born with to help them adapt to their environment and to survive. They have been friends like this for ten years now and my cat is also great friends with my other adult Ball Python as well as my ten foot Coastal Carpet Python which I also have videos up of. Thank you for the compliment it is wonderful to watch their bond :O)

  • @HaloGears360innit Actually in the video I said that the cat was declawed when I got her. That's the purpose of placing that information either in the video or in the video info under the video :O) A slight oversight but it does happen so no harm done :O)

  • How was the snake abused? Why would you abuse a snake?

  • @zOMGLaserGunzPewPew People don't seem to have a problem with it obviously. The snake had a rat bite on it's head and neck from being fed live rats, was dehydrated and infested with mites and missing the last third of it's tail because the guy had ripped the shed off forcefully, skin and flesh. It took a year before I could even put my hands in his enclosure he was so mean and defensive. He almost didn't live and now he's calm and still has scars from the rat bite.

  • @Alucard0715 I hate the fact that any animal is neglected or abused but for the mere reason that Ball Pythons are cheap and easy to get they seem to be the most poorly treated of all snakes :O( It really brings tears to see the way some people treat snakes and all we can do is try to educated them. Dogs and cats are abused also and if HSUS would use the funding they collect for the welfare of the animals there would be fewer that do suffer.

  • @1softkiss It really angers me that people can get away with treating their reptiles in a manner, but oh no, if its a normal/typical domestic animal, they can get in trouble. Reptiles need more representation in society.

  • @Frequency404 I totally agree with you with the exception that Ginger my female Ball Python was the first snake Deffer bonded with and she wasn't a rescue but I think their relationship opened the cat up to trusting and thus having been abused she took to Tipr instantly and he accepted her affections immediately with no reservations at all and they've remained like this for ten years now. Nice input and great points and I believe it had everything to do with Tipr's recovery.
