Claudette Sorel (1932-1999) was one of Olga Samaroff's most highly regarded students. Harold Schonberg music critic of the New York Times, wrote of her performance of Rachmaninoffs Prelude Op. 23 No. 6 in E flat major, "Her performance of the E-flat Prelude was a lesson in how to emphasize a melody with musical simplicity that concealed a great deal of art. Miss Sorell is an elegant pianist."

  • As a former student of Miss Sorel, i am gladdened that someone put her up on YouTube. I have always loved this recording of this piece.

To have known Miss Sorel was to have known true genius.

  • I like this better than Lugansky and dare say, Sofronitsky!
