Ian Marsden shows how he draws very quick and rough cartoon scribbles in Corel Painter with a Wacom Intuos tablet. This video is a few years old already and is intended to show people who are unfamiliar with the digital illustration process a quick introduction on how these things work. These scribbles do not represent professional grade final artwork. Please see my other videos and my homepage for samples of my art. Thank you.

My name is Ian David Marsden and I am a professional illustrator and cartoonist (and flash animator).

An interesting fact about be:
I drew the first Google Doodle. Ever.

I am available for contract work. Please contact me directly: info@marsdencartoons.com.

  • I have a question. if you want to do an animation, can you draw the cartoon on illustrate first and then import it to flash? Thanks!

  • @lilsis Yes you can. In Illustrator you can save symbols and in Flash you can import the .ai file with layers intact directly onto the stage to maintain precise positioning. The symbols go straight into your library.

  • get the intuos4 for better zooming

  • @djdanieljohn Thanks for the tip. I use a Cintiq 21UX now. See my other videos. :)

  • Hi Ian. Can you tell me the brush category and the brush variant you used for the duck??

  • @MartenLeijonmarck sorry no I can't remember exactly. It was either oils or digital oils and most likely a bristol brush with slight modifications by me. Sorry.
