Disagreeing with Marxs reasoning for social change, Weber explains how religion is the central force for social change which in turn brings up what Weber calls the spirit of capitalism. Protestantism, specifically, is the target of his theory. While Roman Catholics preferred to follow the traditional way of life, Protestants believed they should accept change. Weber explains that Protestants were not satisfied with the Catholics belief of not knowing their salvation until Judgment Day, so they looked for signs that they were under Gods will. Protestants came up with the idea that becoming financially successful that they will be under Gods will. This readiness to invest capital in order to make more money is what Weber calls, the spirit of capitalism.
