When I was 4 I cried as terrified calves were strapped to a table crying out in pain as they were branded. My Christian uncle said it was ok because they don't feel anything. I cried harder because he lied to me (which was unthinkable but undeniable).

Then he killed my favorite cow & served her to me to teach me cows were livestock not pets. I didn't understand and looked for her for days after before I did. Then I was scared anyone I loved would be hurt. So much for teaching me empathy.

I love animals but i still eat meat. I can't give it up because I'm already gluten intolerant and without meat I'd pretty much eat corn and rice

Sorry to hear about that. :-(

I used to feed homeless cats when I lived around some a few years ago. One day an independent tom came to me very sick with antifreeze poisoning & I tried calling vets but none would help in a timely manner. I held him in my lap & cried. He died that night (wee hours of Thanksgiving) in a box bed I'd made him.

I made & passed out fliers promoting less toxic antifreeze, but I doubt it made a difference.

@metalmike83 So we accomplished something interesting. The only thing we accomplished was history. You would be no better off (in fact worse off) than a chimpanzee in a jungle if it weren't for the fact that we have history, and that does not make us in any way superior to other animals, definitely not on the level we elevate ourselves to.
