DIY Magnetic Stirrer built from a Radio Shack project box (207-1809), a simple LM317 variable voltage circuit, 10k pot, 9-12v ac/dc adaptor, 120mm pc fan, and magnets from an old hard drive. A flask of beer starter is placed on top with a small magnet or piece of metal inside the flask, the magnet inside the box rotates the magnet or metal inside the flask. This keeps the yeast in suspension while they propagate inside of the starter.
Nice. Fancier than what I did. Mine was quite simple...no circuit, no box, but works really good. Hong Kong parts $6, stir bar $5, plus odds and ends.

Pretty cool. What was the cost for this?

Pretty cool. But I think you should've put a heatsink on the 317, might get pretty hot when it has to power that fan.

Do you have a schematic for this? Not sure about the circuit board.

very cool!

Agreed, also the extra inertia of the blades would improve stability at low speeds. I'd be most concerned about the un-heatsinked LM317, but at least it has built in thermal protection. Nice handiwork on the box!

Cutting the blades off should make it more efficient, plus it looks like the box is unvented so it wouldn't cool much either way.

Why did you cut the blades off? I drilled holes in the sides of my box, I figured the fan could help dissipate any heat created by the pot.
