I was talking about physical drum machines, not 'beats.' This is cool technology, but it wont replace a physical drum set once the novelty wears off -- because it has more versatility.

Yeah, synthesisers and drum machines never stood the test of time, did they. They're only fundamental to an overwhelming percentage of amazing contemporary music.

Cool for technology (and cool to see something doing something unexpected/creative with it), but dumb for music.
Remember in the 80s, when everyone went nuts for drum machines and synthesizers? How much does a lot of that music hold up? Auto-tuned vocals is coming down from the same thing. It's novel at first, but after that ti doesn't hold up.
Music instruments are already pretty incredible technology, a violin for example. I wonder how Billie Holiday or Louie Armstrong would sound auto-tuned

Have you thought about using the Wii Fit step also? You can't have a respectable drum kit without a kick drum!
