This is my Iowa-class battleship replica, completed in Minecraft 1.0. The ship is based extensively on actual photographs and internal diagrams, within the limits of scale and Minecraft itself. The ship is approximately 2/3 actual size, and is proportionally accurate. Great pains were made to include as many major details as possible.

The ship itself is 161 blocks (meters) long, equivalent to 528 feet. The actual Iowa-class ships are 880 feet long, placing this at .600 actual size. As a result, a few minor decks are missing and a few major features, like the mess hall, are shifted vertically slightly. However, everything is horizontally correct. The engine and fire rooms are exactly where they are supposed to be, in the proper order.

The texture pack you see is a custom texture pack combining features of multiple texture packs from minecraftcustomizer.net. I am attempting to gain permission from the original authors to upload it. The military greys are completely custom textures, as no textures could be found to replicate that creamy grey appearance.

Texture credits go to:
Ovos' Rustic Texture Pack (most textures)
Last Days (military-style instrumentation, beds, and a few other things)
Plethora (doors)
-SHW- (levers and chests)

This is, by far, the largest single project I have ever constructed. It took me well over a month to get it to what you see now. At this point I do not think I can add any more details to it, so I am calling it done.

Special thanks goes to the author of this page, for providing extensive photographs and the internal diagram I used:

If there is sufficient request, I will possibly do a video on the Arleigh Burke destroyers you see in the background. I hope you enjoyed my little foray into history, and thanks for watching and reading.

  • No map download?

  • @Hitman8180 Afraid not. It's a 3.5 gigabyte world, with a lot of other peoples' work.

  • texture pacK?

    whats it made of?

  • @godzilla3050 It's a custom texture pack with textures borrowed from a number of different places. All credit is given in the pack's credits.txt file, and you can get the pack with the download.

  • Hope you don't mind I made a d-day map and used your battleship in the map. I have given you credit and the map is on planet minecraft look at the author : Mighty_Patty

  • @BulletzofFury I'm honored. Could you possibly put a credits file in your zip, though? That way if it gets redistributed, it'll show.
