BJJ takedowns - Drop seoi nage

Why would a Judo throw performed by a Judo Olympian get a title like "BJJ takedown"? Sure, it's also available in BJJ, since most (all?) of BJJ comes from Judo, but given there is nothing to identify this as BJJ specifically... give Judo a bit of credit, it won't hurt.

I saw your ebook, but I don't have access to a credit card so I can't purchase it. I'm a newbie at judo but you're videos are really interesting and i'm going to try them out later when I go to the dojo. But I have a problem raising the sleeve of my opponent (I have really weak arms) so I can't put my arm underneath their elbow. I play in the -81kg and I was hoping if you could give me some tips to help build strength

My favorite throw right there.

@BeyondGrappling hey, one question. everytime i do a drop seoi nage my opponents are always able to counter it by moving to the side. any tips on how to prevent that from happening?

Nice video, my nigga. Brotha's in da hood do dis shit all wrong. I was at a shoot out tree nites ago and tried dis move after some dumb mutha fuker pulled a ratchet out on my azz.

@dajuev1 it'll be better if u get in between the legs and be sure that you lock them up first before u drop so u wont lose ur grip.
quick question ....
I am a 90kg player and love the drop seoi nage because most people think i am too big and slow when they see me to pull it off and therefore i win a lot of my matches with it and people just shake their heads when i pull it off cause they never saw it coming haha
i am wondering which do you think you get more power from or maybe even easier to throw the drop Ippon or the drop Morote seoi nage?

good work drop seoi is a great throw, i think drop morote seoi nage is alot tighter than drop ippon but if u can have a seperate entry for each throw that would be even better

Just got back from a judo class and my shoulder is pretty injured. The guy doing this throw on me lifted me like he was going to do the normal one then dropped. We were meant to be just dropping and i'm sure he did it wrong and just drove me straight on my shoulder. If you're doing the drop seonagi there's no lifting right?

yeah there should be a lift at the end to finish the technique, mostly when your opponent resits a bit,

id love to learn this throw, but does repetitive dropping cause any harm to the knees in the future?
RodrigoVanilla93 2 years ago
maybe wear some knee pads, also if you do it properly you should not bang your knees too hard
