Shootboxing, as part of a goodwill gesture, accepted a Chinese Sanda's team's offer for a 5-on-5 style vs. style matchup. These are quite commonly promoted by Chinese interests to promote interest in Sanda, pitting them against practitioners of Muay Thai, Full Contact Kickboxing, and various forms of karate practiced by other nations. However, this time things were a little different.

1. The bouts were contested under full Shootboxing rules due to the rules of Shootboxing being more, as opposed to less liberal than Sanda. (In Shootboxing, throws and standing submission attempts are both legal, standing subs are illegal in Sanda)

2. Sanda fighters normally contend with ameture fighters, part-time professionals, and older athletes. Ceasar Takeshi fielded his best fighters in the 5-on-5 matchup, with the Shootboxing team captained by Andy Souwer, the 2007 K-1 MAX world champion.

As you can see, Souwer, despite coming from Shootboxing, finds Sanda's catches and throws difficult to contend with. Then the later rounds start.

  • Sanshou sanda is a good stand up style as well as muay thai. All depends on fighter and dont forget that Andy has more fighting experience

  • cos why not? if you want to beat some one, you get close. period. i'd say throw in some boxing combo's like masato does, but the point is efficient power training, he's had no good scientific coaching.

  • i dont see the point of crouch down to grab your opponent's thigh then throw him on the ground, whats the fun of that?youll only waste your energy, without wearing out the opponent. he doesnt have a goal in fighting, except from getting point from distant attacks, once getting close, he forms no threat to the opponent, which sends a signal for sauwer to get close.

  • iono that was kinda weird, i kinda felt like the chinese guy shouldve won. But he was kinda getting carried away lol. seemed like he ran out of gas.

  • @Dynaman21 oh sorry , i shouldnt have gotten defensive too. thanks = )

  • @34rolento1 It's not directed at you. It's the comments in general.

  • @Dynaman21 ???? i dont understand wat i did wrong here. He called Wei Shou lei a fool , i defended the fighter , how is that racist? Neither did I insult 2fnez. If your referring to my comment about 'Chingy eyes' , note that I used 'even if ' . btw I am chinese as well , tat's why I cant be defaming anyone in the video.

  • @34rolento1 OK, one more blatant racist comment from ANYONE and I lock the comments. Sick of every Sanda video having comments filled with Chinese racial slurs and Thai racial slurs and Japanese racial slurs, etc. This is about styles, not racial bullcrap.

  • @2fnez tat fool in question is better looking than you , even though he has 'chingy eyes' . and he could own u in a fight

  • The big turning point in this fight was when Wei tried to pick Andy up at about 7:49, he wasted a lot of energy and got countered and couldn't recover. Souwer is just pure toughness, practically indestructable.
