On screen for the second time together, Sharmila Tagore and Soumitra Chatterjee star in Satyajit Ray's "Devi."

In this scene Doyamoyee (Sharmila Tagore) slowly begins to believe she's the reincarnation of the Hindu goddess Kali. The people of the rural Bengal village come to her for healing as a man sings a devotional prayer about her.

  • @Trailer1220 She wasn't meant to be a goddess, she was meant to be a young, scared girl who had too much pressure put on her by society and was driven mad. It's a story of identity crisis.

  • In my opinion this movie made a mockery of an ancient and divine spiritual tradition. Hindu saints are amazingly coherent, mindful, and engaged... They work miracles through their divine self realizations! The 'goddess' in this film seems to have catatonic schizophrenia or something of the sort, nothing profoundly enlightened about her character :/

  • there is nothing "bored" about her face. She is into something big.

  • So much creative genius in Bengal--Satyajit Ray, R. Tagore, Ravi Shankar....

  • One of my Favorite Song.

  • can you please upload the full movie for us?

  • She looks tired!!! As if waiting to get out of there!!!

  • sdfff
