  • Hi cant1rac To be honest for the old spectrums i would try and get a plus 2, but to be honest i think they just scare me on how hard they are to use, i used to have a GX4000 all boxed mint but i was not impressed with it, Never really looked into a msx as i never had one when i was younger, where in England are you based, if your in london i run a retro game shop in Croydon.

  • @discopot checked ebay the cheapest working msx is a starting bid of £40 nothing with it, the next is a jap import at £96 no good then i jumps £124 and then £156, just far too expensive to be spending close to playstaion 3 money for any old computer equipment .

you can pick up an amstrad gx4000 which was an immediate faluire and are far rarer machines for £30, madness to be paying £156 for a basic msx1 base model

  • @discopot im based in the uk.

my commodore cost £19 many off the deals im seeing on ebay are poor zx 48k's with not much else £30 bucks & £10p&p £40 is a bit steep, i'll look around car boot sales etc, i'll pick up a spectrum, they're common enough

its msx's now people realise how good they were, ebay price's can be steep with the better models hitting over £100.

occasionally your seeing 1 or 2 come down to something more reasonable, same problem with atari jaguars but ive got 2 and the cd unit

  • @cant1rac Hi mate they have just relased a re lease of dizzy ont eh Iphone i would get it but the controls are never the best for that.

surely you can get some of those system pretty cheap

are you based in the uk?

  • @discopot had this for the zx back in the day, dosent come up to the c64 or cpc level, its still an enjoyable game.

owned an grey 128+ (most compatable) which was replaced 3 times in 6 months.

seams to be problems with the power connection on the amstrad built models as well as the cpc, in the end i got a 48k which aren't great machines (down to price). no proper sound chip just a quite bleeping out its little inbuilt speaker.

hopefully this time i get a fully functioning +2 grey model

  • @discopot yeah! thats why once i got one in the 80's it wasnt long till i sold it...lol

didnt compare at all well with the amstard cpc, msx or c64s that i owned, especially the 48k.

im looking for a cheap spectrum & msx on ebay to add to my c64 & cpc (but im loathed to pay the ridiculous high prices) there were some good games, but they compare badly if the same game is on another system, unless its a speccy port.

so things like jets set willy and dizzy are still worth playing on one

  • Had this for the Spectrum +3. It was solid the first time you played it as you never knew where the spikes were when you were jumping off rocks!

  • How can you tell good graphics when colour clashes ruin all ?

  • i remember this game, had some of the best graphics on the spectrum

  • What is the name of the Spectrum emulator you use?
