At Last, Marriage for New Paltz Activists

Mister SF Hank Donat, the first gay groom of San Francisco, and Robin Tyler (:44), the first lesbian bride of Los Angeles, attend the wedding of Jay Blotcher and Brook Garrett in LA on July 11, 2008. In February, 2004, Garrett and Blotcher took part in the New Paltz, NY weddings officiated by Mayor Jason West. Photos of the NY activists' wedding - #3 in New Paltz - appeared in international TV outlets and newswires. The New Paltz marriages were never legally recognized by the state of New York and were annulled in 2006. In 2008, New York Governor David Paterson directed state agencies to recognize lawful same-sex marriages performed in jurisdictions outside the state.

congrats, to two fine queens! i guess you guys like gay marriage so much you're trying to do it as often as possible and in as many states as possible. it's one way to keep jay and brook on the news. ;-)

i'm so old, i remember going to license bureaus in the 90s in queer nation to get turned down, and hit the news.

now, we are actually getting hitched in two USA states!
