The airspace gets crowded in the skies above the Roanoke River and Albemarle Sound as hundreds of thousands of Tundra Swans and Snow Geese make their way to their "winter place". In addition, the coastal wetlands and pocosin habitats make Plymouth, Roper, Mackeys and Creswell in Eastern North Carolina a haven for year-round avian residents such as the Bald Eagle, Ospreys and a myriad of songbirds and woodpeckers; and a heavenly destination for bird enthusiasts. A variety of lodging is available including waterside B&B's, camping facilities and traditional lodging for any taste or budget. Washington County is just one hour from the Outer Banks and one our from I-95 in a unique and historic coastal area rich with culture, Civil War and maritime history and world-class wildlife. Pettigrew State Park and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge are prime destinations for eco-travelers.
