You're kidding me right? You actually believe "they were on the News"?? The "News" in 1941 was movie shorts, and any and all info coming from Nazi Germany was STRICTLY censored since the mid-1930's. A few seconds of video showing one of the Hortens prototypes was hardly "construction plans", and since Northrop was ahead of them I doubt seriously they would have cared. In 41 he already had COMPLETED plans for a twin-engined fighter and was already working on the XB35.

@Dreachon - History doesnt support your version of the facts, but if your intent is to claim that Northrops work "didnt count", then I suppose its important to try to minimize his impact. The 1929 prototype lead to the N1M and N9M prototypes, the N9M lead to the XB35 and YB49 Bomber projects. The fact that the 1929 was cancelled, after the company was bought out, has no bearing on those facts.
And again, NO flying wing was ever successful prior to the Northrop projects in the 1980's

@aivilik They were destroyed after an agreement made with the USSR. Seems they were so good at not being detected by radar the Russians were scared to death of it being a first strike weapon. So politics played a role in its destruction.

Commentator says XB-35 and YB-49, little different than the title =)

50 years later they took jack northrop in his wheel chair into a secret area where they were completing the B-2 and showed him what they made...they showed him a large scaled model, with his hands shaking holding the model, he said "now I know why god kept me alive so long..."
-
they should at least let them keep at least one as a display in a muesum some
where?

That is one awesome looking aircraft! It's so sad that it wasn't used for very long.
-
These aircraft were DESTROYED? OMG What an historic tragedy. These should have been put into flight museums.
-
bloody Government saying they need to destroy these planes. they should of kept them in hangars and update them with our new technonolgy. i guess thats what the B2 is.
-
off course they didn't flying wings are very unstable and needed electronics to stabilise.
Which didn't appear until we reach that era.
