In my experience, when I shared with people that I was struggling with an eating disorder & showed them pro-ana sites... they were horrified at the content. But for me, they offer a place of total understanding and acceptance, which is impossible to find anywhere else. When the whole world is telling you you're crazy, it's nice to find people who understand. My pro-ana friends inspired me to get better from my ED. They helped me do it and they made me realise I wasn't insane - just ill.

"Engaging with the voice of anorexia which has been stifled by the expertise of others" is the best thing i've ever heard any1 say! Having been in hospital with anorexia, i can tell u others intervening is the most "triggering" thing ive experienced to date. Pro ana sites can trigger u, mostly theyre just VERY calming. Knowing there are others out there who have the same thoughts & being able 2 talk anonymously about ur worries is therapeutic and beneficial to ppl w anorexia NOT triggering

I fully agree with the principle of anti-censorship. However, pro-ana sites are very controversial, and more harmful than you make out in that video. Censorship should never be embraced lightly, but sometimes it's necessary. For example incitement to commit homicide or advocating violence against ethnic groups should not be publicised and thus passively approved. When considering pro-ED sites, the severity and the distribution of the content should be considered. I don't know what to think.
