For fans of Eowyn & Legolas.

NOTE: Due to a copyright infringement action by Warner Brothers, the soundtrack on this video that you see is a replacement for the original song: Josh Groban's solo version of "For Always". That's why it sounds really odd, and lacks the emotion of the original music. Basically the replacement music I chose has made the video unbearable to watch/listen to. If you'll bear with me, I plan to reconstruct the video, possibly with an Il Divo soundtrack, since they're not under the Warner recording label.

Clips from "Elizabethtown" and "Lord of the Rings"
Music: "For Always" sung by a singer, from the CD "The singer in Concert."

Part four of the trilogy. Yes, read it again, slowly, and it still makes no English sense.

Here's the story so far:

Part 1. Introduction. Archer meets shieldmaiden.
Part 2. "Middle Earthbound": Elf and maiden battle to save Middle Earth. Maiden expires as only a warrior should, valiantly.
Part 3. "Remember Me": An elf reflects.
Part 4a: "Journey on the Boundaries of Time.": How Legolas lived among men. This actually belongs in the Part (4) time/space transition between Legolas and Drew, but I couldn't squeeze it into the song, so I cheated and made it a separate mini video.
Part 4. "For Always": Cursed by long lives and memories, elves never forget.

The order in which I created them were: Part 2, Part 4a, Part 3, Part 1, Part 4. Makes me dizzy just thinking about it.

More backstory:
I must have listened to a certain song by a certain singer well over a hundred times. I listened to it while I was fast forwarding through a muted "Elizabethtown." I listened to repeated segments while editing my video. I looped it on my MP3 player, and let it run over and over, ad nau... uh, infinitum. That song is just leaking from my pores. Amazingly, I still enjoy it. This solo version of the song comes off of the "certain signer's in Concert" CD.

When the melody was introduced at the end of the movie "A.I.". it was a melancholy tune, which had me weeping buckets. In this video, it becomes a celebration of the enduring love of elves. The singer's baritone caresses the lyrics and serve as the perfect "voice" for Legolas.

Clips are mostly from "Elizabethtown", with still inserts from the Lord of the Rings. For those of you paying attention, one character listed in the credits is missing from the video. I had a longer version, and the character was cut out of it, but I'm just too tired to fix the credits section.

My favourite part of the video is the fade from Drew to Eowyn at the stables. That's a bit of serendipity which I didn't notice until after I joined the clips. It's a little less exciting than discovering, say, an image of the Virgin Mary in my oatmeal, but I think it's neat. The video, that is; I've never seen anything mysterious besides unidentified brown smidges in my oatmeal.

Moving along....with this video, I've officially burned the Eowyn & Legolas video-making fever from my system. Iaccomplished my goal. I learned to use freeware video and audio editors (Windows Movie Maker, AOA DVD Ripper, VirtualDub, and Audacity). I learned also that it takes an insane amount of time for me to make up my mind over just these three minutes of video. I'd guess 85% of my clippings and screenshots wound up in the bit bucket. It was fun, in a strait-jacketed, head-banging sort of way.

Enjoy, and salve (fare thee well).

  • Loved watching this series...especially this one, there's something very eerie about it. It makes my fingers itch to write about them, but I've never done LOTR fic before and I'd probably botch it and the videos speak for themselves, anyway. Lovely....
