5 year old who previously had normal ankle/gait movement. Now at age 5 has little or no ankle dorsiflexion. Has to compensate with hip or gait flexion to get heels down. Summer 2010 child spent 6 weeks in double walking casts. This helped immensely. Here are the results!
As of March 2011 he had regressed back to tip-toe walking and we made the decision to recast. For the majority he is a very normal yet shy kid, whom does NOT care for socks, soft blankets and shoes.
UPDATE: As of November 2011 our little one has come a long way! It has taken months to retrain his muscles and brain, but he did it! He does like to walk on his toes every so often, but is now old enough to remind himself NOT too. Also, he has used leg braces in the past and is finishing up his final days of physical therapy.
These steps we have taken have made such a positive imact on our child. In preschool he was insecure and refused to speak or interact. He is now an extremely bright and confident 1st grader. Way to go kiddo!

  • I had my little girl watch this. Thanks for sharing. She is getting her casts on tomorrow. I am kind of freaking out, but I know it is for the best. I pray that we do not have to do the surgery and the cast is all we need. I hope your little one is doing much better now.

  • @mymarvi -It has now been near a year since our little one has had his double casts. He is doing excellent along with daily stretches and biweekly physical therapy. He did have one calf which was tighter than the other and has required more attention, including recasting. We now have a flat footed 6 yr old (who does occasionally revert to tip-toes). Good luck! The 1st 24 hrs were a bit painful for him followed by a few weeks of creative fun!

  • Hi, my 3year old son has this tip-toe walking most of the day since he was1, although sometimes he can walk normally. He´s now complaining of sore calf. And he doesn´t like socks and shoes too. Did you talk to any specialist doctor about it. What speciallty one, neurologist or psychiatrist ? I guess my boy is from the spectrum but I´m not sure if this happens only because of the toe walking in his case. thanks.
