C.J. Chivers provides an aerial analysis of the medevac helicopter rescue of Cpl. Zachary K. Kruger in Marja, Afghanistan. June of 2010.
It was June 1, and a crew from Charlie Company, known as Dustoff, 6th Battalion of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade had been called to pick up another wounded American in Marja. The two crew members — the crew chief, Sgt. Grayson Colby, and the medic, Sgt. Ian Bugh — stepped out and onto the soft dirt of a freshly tilled field. • @71saag and if by firing back regardless you fire into a school an innocent group of bystanders or a mosque all you do is aid the turn the locals against you and your cause and aid the enemy. when in situations like Afghanistan you must think of the long term goals continually. you can not achieve victory by simply killing you must gain the support of the every-day innocent people of the country and you will NEVER do that if you start shooting first and thinking later

  • I'm so tired of our soldiers having to fight under rules of engagement that end up getting them killed and wounded. Ever since WWII, (Korea, Viet Nam, IRAQ and now Afghanistan) we have to fight under some idiot's rules that cost us lives and accomplish nothing. If we are going to send in our troops to fight somewhere, then the only rules of engagement should that if they are fired on then we fire back regardless of where the enemy is. Period. No sanctuaries! Our troops deserve it.

  • TALIBAN WIN THE WAR

  • @Celethal we changed the rules long time ago!! what do you think the special forces ; seals, green berets and the rest are for??....they are not under NATO command, they dont have the ISAF patch

  • I believe that we should change the rules of engagement, if you know they are taliban attack them, we should be able to ambush them them just like they do us.

  • Those 2 men walking along the tree line should have been taken out as the Blackhawk passed over them...then they would only have taken fire from 2 sides & not 3. In a war zone (western rules as he put it) You can only fire back if you see a weapon. WTH!! No wander the wars been going on there for so long, cos the bastard enemy are concealing their firepower under their long dresses till danger passes. Then they pull out their weapons from under their clothes & fire.

  • Semper fi. Stay safe brothers.
