Fan Free LuciaStove Update

Upping the BTU's of the fan free version of the LuciaStove

I realize that the fan free stove makes sense for very poor people but I was wondering if you could add an option of a thermoelectric generator to run your fan as well as possibly a light to illuminate your work and/or a receptacle to charge a battery? Just a thought :-)

@jdlutz65 we do have one model called the Luciapq which is now on its eighth month of life testing. it has no fan and generates 60W electrical. It was designed to be used with the Oe Laptop For Every Child Program.

Thank for the nice comment Had7, especially since you live in one of the "greenest" countries in the world. I'm so glad you've been following the progress. the heat output on the fan free LuciaStove is now 6-12 kW(thermal) and with a different top nozzle she get up to 28kW. As for fireplace inserts, I have some happy news for you. we've been selling them with fan and char traps, for about four months now,mostly to people who live in areas where traditional open fire fireplaces have been banned.

I have been following the LuciaStove for the past 6 months and watching the fantastic advancements, we too are interested in buying a couple home and small size models.

What was the BTU measure after getting rid of the gas wick?

This meets every one of our needs:

wood-chip fuel

clean, efficient burn

good char result

fan-less

If you could devise a solution for removing the char from a unit integrated into a fireplace, some sort of pull-out trap, this would be perfect!

not so sure about that last statement Drak, while I'm very happy I was able to eliminate the need for a gas wick in the LuciaStove I did have some good luck with a cone shaped fuel feed and gas wick combo, made adding the fuel even with a pot on the stove quite easy. just a thought

Outstanding! I had an idea after seeing this in use with the gas wick. It one was to make the gas wick with a sliding top such as the Trangia simmer lid for the purpose of adding fuel. This might make the set up with a gas wick a bit more user friendly so to speak, but no matter what one does a gas wick will be in the way LOL.

Today I was able to almost double the BTU output and get rid of the gas wick! A good day in the lab (the 2:44 above is two hours 44 min ;) )

Thanks Drak, yep, seems to work with just about any biomass provided it has less than 30% moisture content. The two liters of pellets weighed 1.5 kg and after 2:44 minutes of blue flame I had 0.5 kg of good char. Very happy. The gas wick took some tweaking and it did improve efficiency some because it stabilized the flame and allowed for more complete combustion of the gasses, but I did not like it because it was an extra component and made adding fuel harder.
