Savings accounts in childs name provide lifelong benefits- Child Development Accounts (CDAs) are savings accounts that begin as early as birth. CDAs allow parents and children to accumulate savings for post-secondary education, homeownership or business initiatives. Michael Sherraden, professor at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis and director of the Center for Social development, discusses CDAs, their benefits, how CDAs are being used internationally and how CDAs are being tested in the United States. Sherraden was recently named to TIME Magazines annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world for his work on asset-building for low-income people.
