On Sept. 12 2009, Spaceward organized a test of the helicopter cable-hanging system for the 2009 Power Beaming Competition. LaserMotive clamped a dummy climber to the cable, and put cameras facing up and down on-board. Both videos are synced in this movie of one of the flight tests. See lasermotive.com for more info.
they should show the bottom of the rope, 'cos it does just look like a helicopter is reeling in a camera on a rope.

The future of this is to elevate astronauts and equipment to low orbiting satellite stations I guess

Congrats on winning the Beam Power Challenge. Keep it up!
Might be best for cargo until the spinning is sorted out.

Didn't see when it reached his highest point. Why isn't it cammed from the side?

The future of lift off into space... Definitely requires less fuel. I think they need to work on stabilizing the elevator. There is way too much spinning starting around 0:45. Maybe astronauts could withstand that amount of spin, but I think I'd loose my lunch!!
