On Sept. 12 2009, Spaceward organized a test of the helicopter cable-hanging system for the 2009 Power Beaming Competition. LaserMotive clamped a dummy climber to the cable, and put cameras facing up and down on-board. Both videos are synced in this movie of one of the flight tests. See lasermotive.com for more info.

  • they should show the bottom of the rope, 'cos it does just look like a helicopter is reeling in a camera on a rope.

  • The future of this is to elevate astronauts and equipment to low orbiting satellite stations I guess

  • Congrats on winning the Beam Power Challenge. Keep it up!

Might be best for cargo until the spinning is sorted out.

  • Didn't see when it reached his highest point. Why isn't it cammed from the side?

  • The future of lift off into space... Definitely requires less fuel. I think they need to work on stabilizing the elevator. There is way too much spinning starting around 0:45. Maybe astronauts could withstand that amount of spin, but I think I'd loose my lunch!!

  • looks almost like something is written on the ground

  • great stuff.....

  • pretty interesting
