The Choir of the Chapel of St John's College, Cambridge, under the direction of the legendary George Guest, perform the Christmas carol 'Jesus Christ the Apple Tree', Elizabeth Poston's setting of a text by an anonymous poet.
Text:
The tree of life my soul hath seen,
Laden with fruit and always green: (x2)
The trees of nature fruitless be
Compared with Christ the apple tree.
His beauty doth all things excel:
By faith I know, but ne'er can tell (x2)
The glory which I now can see
In Jesus Christ the apple tree.
For happiness I long have sought,
And pleasure dearly I have bought: (x2)
I missed of all; but now I see
'Tis found in Christ the apple tree.
I'm weary with my former toil,
Here I will sit and rest awhile: (x2)
Under the shadow I will be,
Of Jesus Christ the apple tree.
This fruit doth make my soul to thrive,
It keeps my dying faith alive; (x2)
Which makes my soul in haste to be
With Jesus Christ the apple tree.
AMEN!

The most beautiful Christmas song I've ever heard. First heard it by the Dale Warland singers 5 - 6 years ago. This version is just as good ! Thanks for posting : )

Thank you George Guest. The only professional performance I have found so far which is not rushed. :)
