This is the story of a growing idea.

This was never meant to be a music video, which in the end is in a form of a very basic video. To begin with, Tara [aka Patti Cakes] who was performing ukulele at my girlfriend's dance and burlesque show asked me to come in and use my Zoom H4n and my camera to record and shoot her properly while she was performing some of her songs and that way being able to show what she was doing to get her more gigs. I planned on maybe shoot her a couple of times for each song with different camera angles and maybe get some behind the scene footage to insert, I thought it would be fun and easy. I had the location [the venue where the burlesque shows were taking place, The Third and Social, downtown Auckland].
But then I asked Bertrand Remaut and Géraldine Clermont with whom I already worked a few times to come and help me with the sound [Bertrand is a trained sound guy and I'm not! And Géraldine is a wonderful producer [even if she had more of a directing input on this one] with always lots of ideas on set] and bring his camera in order to be able to have a second angle and being able to have a little more freedom in post production.

So we ended up shooting 3 songs with 3 cameras, each of the songs with two different settings and a third part where Tara/Patti [I prefer her real name, Tara, such a cool name] would do random stuff that could add some quirky fun stuff.
We tried to use the bar and the velvet drapes of the Third and Social to create a different vibe for each of the three songs and try to avoid the unavoidable: without real planning and in the same location, the videos would look somewhat similar.
At the end we also recorded Cannibal again with the microphones closer for an even better sound quality. And we shot it again, but in a very simple way.

So on the technical side we had just one light and a reflector, we recorded the song with a proper mic [can't remember the brand], a radio mic and the Zoom H4n.
We had the 60D, 550D and the GH2 with a wide variety of lenses [including some super weird and cool CCTV C mount lenses for the GH2, giving a cool soft look on the edges and sharp center].
