Brooke Shields blames cigarette smoking for the deaths of both of her grandparents, therefore went on a anti smoking crusade. Cancer can be caused by genetic predisposition. But hatred knows no boundaries..

My uncle was a heavy smoker and died of throat cancer at age 56. Smoking does kill.

Vegetarians aren't killing themselves. Smokers are. She doesn't like SMOKING. Not smokers. She is clearly loved her grandfathers, because that is why she is doing the ad in the first place. She doesn't want people to die like her grandfathers did, so she made an ad that's message is "don't do this or you will kill yourself". The message is not "I hate people who are killing themselves." If that were what she wanted to do, hate smokers, she would have make an ad FOR smoking so smokers would die.

She probably felt that the character that she plays is entirely different than her as a person. Just like a lot of people play the part of somebody whose religious observance, sexual behavior or political point of view is entirely different from their own. It is all about being a good actor or actress.
