I am starting a new series of videos based upon the questions or comments I have received either privately or in the comments section. Each of these videos will be targeted to answering that question or issue in short, less than 3 minutes video. I am hoping that these videos can be used as a Frequently Asked Question about the Atkins Diet or Low Carb in general.

In this video, I deal with a question I receive often. How do I start or restart the diet? I come up with three specific recommendations:
1.) Get the junk out of your house. There is no reason to start with cravings staring you in the face.

2.) Get and read the book. The book I mean is either the low carb book of choice or Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

3.) Hit the low carb recipe sites, like Linda's Low Carb, and browse the Induction friendly recipes. Make a menu for the week and go shopping.

The last half of this viewer's question was how long to do the diet. I somewhat answered this already in the last video, but my answer is always "forever. There is no "after" on the Atkins Diet."

I hope you like this series of upcoming videos.

  • ok gotta keep reading

  • No cheese allowed in induction?

  • @roughlyhewnstone You are allowed 3-4 oz of cheese on Induction. The misconception is that you can have as much cheese as you want during Induction.

  • have see the very informative video by Matt Stone here on youtube called Atkins diet warning?

  • @SaturatedFatsLover I saw it a year or so ago. I think it's foolish to stop a long term way of eating over short term side effects -- like the referenced constipation or temporary hair loss, and the video speaks more to the lack of understanding of the author of Atkins than a reflection of the diet itself.

  • @cpmc1 Actually I did start doing it for weight loss and lost 211 pounds on the diet. Then I learned how healthy the diet is -- my insulin resistance went away, my cholesterol dropped like a rock 50 points, my heart risk factors have dropped, my hypertension went away, my sleep apnea disappeared, and my athletic performance has gone through the roof (marathons, weight lifting, and sprints).

Watch my Atkins Diet Misconceptions series if you really want to educate yourself.

  • @cpmc1 I deal with with all the myths of that people like yourself bring up and detail the multiple scientific studies that continually back up the low carb lifestyle.

As for becoming a vegan or vegetarian, I have friends who are that, but why would I want to take an extremely limited diet when I can enjoy the healthy foods of the Atkins lifestyle and have 6 years of fantastic annual physicals and blood work.

  • 6 people had ice cream.

  • @bowulf Wow. That's severe sleep apnea. Mine was 50 incidents a night. I guess yours is a clear case of it being strictly weight related. Maybe mine is too, but I only need to lose 40 lbs at most. But then again mine is called moderate. I'll have to search for studies on it. Maybe it's any kind of extra weight in the neck and chin which can initiate the condition if people don't already have an issue with central apnea from something going on in their brain. I hope mine goes away as easily.

  • @MillionthUsername I haven't done any specific research on sleep apnea because honestly mine just disappeared as I lost the weight. My sleep apnea was confirmed in a sleep study at the Mercy Sleep Clinics; apparently, I had 600-700 waking episodes that night and my pulse ox went down to the 70's. They were the ones who prescribed the BiPap machine due to the necessary pressure to keep the airway opens were so high.
