So you honestly believe that paying for the entire coutnry's population to have healthcare is cheaper than paying for the distinct population of people that use the ER as primary care? You are sorely wrong, my friend. Also, I have been on the receiving end of our own government-run healthcare- the military's healthcare. I served in the Army, and that healthcare is horrible. The "life saving drug" was originally considered way too expensive compared to the next best "life saving treatment" and access was not denied - just the funding. The NHS later did a deal and that drug is now used. Not every US insurer has that drug on their formulary. Google and you will find plenty of American insurers that refused to pay too.

Here was a life and death decision that the politicians who got involved against the wishes of the husband as I recall.

And it was not the government that took the final decision but the court.. Last I heard the courts were independent of government.

In any case there is no "government take over of health care". In fact, all that is happening is that more tax dollars and more people (rich and poor alike) are going to pay more to the insurance industry (though why they call it an industry is puzzling to me because they only "take" and don't themselves deliver a cent in health care).

It's a win for the insurance industry. The republicans absolutely WILL NOT reform it. They will lose votes if they do.

The woman actually has atrial fibrilliation which is not life-threatening. It can be treated in many ways but she wanted a pacemaker because a friend she knows has benefited from this. She herself was advised against it on good medical grounds (an underlying thyroid problem), not her age. NHS Chiefs do not make decisions. Doctors do and on clinical grounds.

The problem is the doctors won't want to be in the public service, and wait times will increase so much for the public service that the people without emergencies won't receive care for extremely long periods of time.

I know a person who gave birth to a child of rape. She never once thougth of abortion. She has a wonderful grown child that knows of her conseption and admires her mom for her choice to keep her. Yes it takes a strong person, but it can be done.

That is NOT what the goverment are trying to do. It is up to the mother whether she gets an abortion or not which is something the goverment can't influence. Also what about girls pregnant through rape? Are you going to force her to give birth to a child born through rape?
