Urban beekeeping in downtown Toronto, Canada! This movie was shot about two weeks after the bees arrived. The hive started as a colony of about 10,000 with their queen, in one "brood box". Our beekeeper quickly added another box to make room for more brood and some honey. The film shows her checking them out to see how they're using the upper box and if they've filled the lower. The results, as you see, are amazing!

Because the weather was warm and sunny that day, about 20C (70F), the bees seemed calm and hence no gloves or arm protection -- just a head veil to keep them out of the hair and face.

  • try using sugar water. it does not alarm the hive as smoke does and the bees are a lot calmer.
