Thessaloniki is the second bigest Greek city after Athens. It's settled in the north of Greece in the ancient and proud, eternal Greek land of Macedonia.
The city has a history of more than 2,300 years and took its name from Thessaloniki, sister of Alexander the Great.

The city was named after Kassandros wife Thessaloniki, the daughter of Macedonian Greek King Philippos and sister of Alexander the Great. Two decades earlier King Philippos had staged a decisive victory for his Thessalian allies at Chaeronia. The daughter born to Philippos that year was named Thessaloniki (that means Thessalian victory - Thessalon Niki) to commemorate it
