This cover of the Contours tune of the same name came out in 1966. Harvey Russell and the Rogues were a group of Akron cops that decided to cut a few records, "Shake Sherry" being their most successful and charting Top 10 in both the Akron and Cleveland, Ohio markets. The record was often introduced on the air as "Here's Akron's singing policemen ... ".

I hope to update the image soon. I do have the original Roulette label 45, and ripped it as an mp3 at some time in the past, but the actual 45 is temporarily MIA somewhere in the vast quantity of boxes I have in storage, so when I can find it, I hope to scan the label for the image. It's the normal orange and yellow striped Roulette label for that time period. I put this up in a hurry as I read there's others looking to hear this on Youtube, and I don't see it up yet by anyone else.

  • I remember these guys performing at the Chippewa Teen Fair 1967 along with Terry Knight and the Pack, The McCoys, Lord Richie and the Mariners, The Measles (Joe Walsh pre-James Gang), Don Webster and the Upbeat dancers, along with a few others. Thanks for posting, been looking for this a long time

  • WIXY 1260 picked this to click in '66. Lost my copy. Awful vocal is more than compensated for by the awesome guitar solo. Thanks for this memory.
