I don't think temp tracks always work, but I did think that using Goldmith's 'Freud' score in the scene in 'Alien' when Dallas hunts the alien in the air shafts worked brilliantly. Scott and Rawlings temp tracked 'Blade Runner' with Goldsmith's 'Planet of the Apes' score and I've even heard that Scott retained part of Goldsmith's '13th Warrior' score in 'Kingdom of Heaven'. Ironic considering what happened to Goldmith's music in 'Alien' and 'Legend'.

Now that they've shown us clips of PSYCHO 2 & lEGEND, they should show us scenes from POLTERGEIST I where they used Jerry Goldsmith's music scoring for that movie too.

Goldsmith is a legend. This is perfect for Psycho 2 because it's both sad and haunting, much like the film itself.

I KNEW it!
I was just watching legends and that scene came on, and I thought to myself, "...This music is so familiar..."
Then I realized that it was from Psycho II! We still have an old record from that soundtrack in our house somewhere that my sister never returned to the public library a couple decades ago. XD
Thanks for posting this - now I know for sure it was the same piece of music. :)

OMG! It was recycled temp music!
Jerry didn't recycle anything! Get your facts straight.
Ridley Scott simply used the actual cue from Psycho II for this scene because he didn't have any music from Legend that fit in its place, so instead he merely went with the cue he had already placed there on the temp track.
He did the same sort of thing with Goldsmith's music and the temp tracks for Alien.

Ridley Scott's editor Terry Rawlings temp tracks his films with soundtracks from other films. Alien was temp tracked with Mr.Goldsmiths Freud( the captain in the tight passageways and the acid split scene)as well as Psycho II on Legend(the Kitchen/Plates scene) which made their way onto the final print. Some Directors fall in love with the temp track as it's a close to a vesion of the film that they originally envisioned.
