'A Song for a Son,' is the first of 44 that will be rolled out, one at a time, as part of the Smashing Pumpkins' new album, 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.'

Lyrics:

This is a song for a son
This is a song for a sailor
The best I ever had
This is a song for a kid
This is the song for a tailor
Who stitched up my old heart
Who stitched up my old heart

And I, I am one of many, many more to come, many more to come
I am one of many more, many more to come, many more to come

This is a song for a dove
This is a song for a blown up bird
The kind that don't return to the nest
This is a song for a star
This is a song for a space invader
Who flew into the sun
Never to return
Never to return

I am one of many, many more to come, many more to come
I am one of many more, many more to come, many more to come

This is a song for a son
This is a song for a sailor
The son I never had
He sailed without a map
This is a song for that kid
This is the song for that tailor
Who stitched up my old heart
Before I broke it all
All apart

I am one of many, many more to come, many more to come
I am one of many more, many more to come, many more to come

You daughters of the revolution
Carry back your sons
Carry them back home
You daughters of the revolution
Carry back your sons, home

This is a song for a son
This is a song for a sailor
The best I ever had
He sailed without a map

  • @beatlevato True story ^^

  • the best from teargarden

  • This song prepares my existence to be sacrificed for the good of my kids..for the good of humanity..Only Solution=Revolution!

  • horrible mix on this song.... totally ruined it

  • @TechieRefugee *Chamberlin. I'm always doing that. Derp

  • Well, I guess we should be calling it "The Smashing Pumpkin" now, since Chamberlain's gone.

  • The arrangement is that of " house of the rising sun" -even same guitar chords.

  • @nblfan I thought the same exact thing upon listening to it!

On that ascending progression, I started humming "And she's buying a stairway to heaven.. mmmmm mmm mmm" xD But agreed, definitely a great original by Corgan once again :D

  • i feel like he speaks to me with this song

  • This song is as deep as you can get. He's mourning the loss of the son he never had, and feels the pain of the loss even though his son never existed. That's why I love The Smashing Pumpkins they make music that is above most people's head.
