When I was just 21 and still fairly new to drinking, I ordered one of these at a sports bar, assuming from the name that it would be a fairly innocuous afternoon cocktail. BIG mistake!

I'm surprised more people who drink these in public don't find themselves in unknown alleyways with their wallets and keys missing the next day. It's a great drink, of course, but it'll take you from Jekyll to Hyde before the glass is empty.

@borghese84 Why wouldn't tequila be in there? The ingredients in this video is correct according to the National Bartenders Association. You can also choose whether to use lime juice or sour mix, either way it should be 1 1/2 parts of it. I understand different persons got different ways they like to mix drinks, and that's fine.

BTW, I fully support you on the coke thing though. He did indeed use waaay too much coke :)

I am sorry but that's not al all how a proper L.I. should be prepared. First of all, the sour mix should be the first ingredient (and pls...sour mix not a silly lemon), then in order vodka,rhum,gin and triple sec. After this, U MIX it and just in the end u add a lil bit (not so much) of a coke in order to give the ice tea color. And sorry but...why tequila is even there??? Long Island is the typical cocktail that if badly made (and it's easy to screw it up) it tastes just awful

im drinking DESERT ISLAND LONG ISLAND ICE TEA right now,and it has everyhing in it that he tells u need for this drink and i just add alitle coke-cola to it....yummmmm!!!
