Here's a clip from "Tickle The Ivories," a Dallas cable access show that aired in the late 90's, hosted by none other than.. Janis Wolfe!
This bizarre program featured Janis, playing bible hymns on her piano (no singing at all), smiling at inappropriate moments, and sharing antidotes about how Jesus, God, and the angels have helped her in her life. It was pretty awful, and made me laugh my ass off from the first viewing.
There was only one episode of "Tickle The Ivories" produced, and I'm pretty sure I'm the reason why. At the end of the program, Janis flashed the address for her PO Box, inviting people to share their thoughts about the program. So I was inclined to kindly send her a letter that was full of praise (insincere), glowing compliments (smarmy), and song requests (inappropriate selections).. After a month with no reply, I sent another, and another.. just to let her know that there was someone watching (plus, I wanted another episode for material! I used bits of this first episode in our underground-classic "Please Stand By" tape) and wanted to include more of that Janis Wolfe magic for the followup.. but I never recieved a reply, and "Tickle The Ivories" never aired again.. a pity, no less. Few years later, I dug around the archives at the Dallas cable access station, and couldn't find any other episodes, or even a trace of Janis Wolfe, meaning she was going under a different name, or pulled her tape so no one would ever see it again. Who knows what happened to the poor gal, but her memory lives on!
After a terrible misreading, the broadcasters started showing this at 3:00. It's normal timeslot went to the gynecology education program, "Tickling the Ovaries."
